Our History
Where we came from, where we are, where we're going
Fort McMurray Alliance church began with a small group of people who desired to connect their faith, families and community in spiritual growth. It was established in 1975 under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Ed Carlson and became part of the Christian and Missionary Alliance which has churches around the globe.
The DNA of the church is found in Ed Carlson’s passion for those who do not know Jesus and he willingly served out of his own experience rather than program. The Church grew steadily until Rev. Art Dyck arrived. His gift was also evangelism and it was during this time that the church grew significantly. Many long-term residents of Fort McMurray remember attending services during Art’s ministry. Following Art’s ministry Rev. Kevin Peters served the church and according to the congregation, his strength was in pastoral care. With the coming of Rev. Ron McClelland, the Alliance Church was prepared for change. The culture of the city was changing. It was the lull before the storm and Ron was the man of God’s choosing to prepare the congregation for something new.
Pastor Jim Regehr is the 5th Senior Pastor to serve the community since the church began. He came in the early nineties to a people prepared to be used of God. Jesus Christ has been building His church and today the congregation is on the verge of something new, prepared to participate with God in His plans for this city. A family atmosphere exists as people come together to worship God, encourage and help one another and reach out in their own sphere of influence to share the love of God.
The church family desires to be a growing force within the community of Fort McMurray as they seek to address the needs of this boom town culture. The staff of Fort McMurray Alliance recognizes that within this culture there exists many needs as families are separated due to work schedules, young people face new social challenges and children gain early independence. The church desires to come alongside the community as a support system in these changing times. We are prepared as a community of faith to serve the community around us.
